What is an Australian Mountain Doodle?
An Australian Mountain Doodle is a hybrid of a Bernedoodle (Bernese Mountain Dog × Poodle) and an Aussiedoodle (Australian Shepherd × Poodle). This triple-cross combines the intelligence of the Poodle, the loyalty of the Bernedoodle, and the trainability of the Aussiedoodle. They are known for being family-friendly, affectionate, and adaptable dogs with low-shedding coats.
What size will my Australian Mountain Doodle be?
Expected to mature around 50-65pounds. A standard size doodle-large enough for sturdy play, but small enough to manage comfortably indoors.
Do Australian Mountain Doodles shed?
Most AMDs are low-shedding due to the Poodle influence. Wavy coats shed the least, while curly coats tend to be most allergy-friendly. Shedding varies slightly by puppy, but this mix is generally well-suited for families who want minimal shedding.
Are they hypoallergenic?
No dog is completely hypoallergenic, but Australian Mountain Doodles are an excellent choice for allergy-sensitive families. Their coats produce low dander and minimal shedding.
What is their temperament like?
AMDs are known for being affectionate, people-focused, loyal, intelligent, and easy to train. They are gentle with children, playful without being overwhelming, and bond deeply with their families.
Are they good indoor family dogs?
Yes. After exercise and playtime, they settle extremely well indoors. They are adaptable to homes, farms, suburbs, and active family lifestyles.
Are they good with children?
Yes. This is one of the best breeds for families with kids. They are gentle, patient, and playful. Early training helps reinforce appropriate boundaries, but they naturally do well with little ones.
Do they nip?
All puppies nip as part of normal development. Australian Mountain Doodles respond very well to redirection, chew toys, and boundaries. We begin bite inhibition and redirection training from day one.
How much exercise do they need?
They have a moderate energy level. A daily walk, play session, or yard time is usually enough. They enjoy being active but are not high-maintenance.
Are they easy to train?
Yes. This is one of the easiest doodle varieties to train due to their intelligence, sensitivity, and eagerness to please. They respond best to gentle, consistent training and structure.
Are the parents health tested?
Yes. Both Betsy and George are health tested and cleared. They receive regular veterinary care and are structurally sound and genetically healthy.
What health testing do you perform on the puppies?
Each puppy receives age-appropriate vaccinations, routine deworming, and a full veterinary exam before going home.
Do puppies come microchipped?
We do not microchip puppies. We believe this is a personal choice for each family and should be done under their chosen veterinarian.
What food do the puppies eat?
Your puppy will go home with a bag of the food they have been eating so you can continue or transition safely. Food details will be included in your go-home packet.
Do you offer a health guarantee?
Yes. We offer a 12-month health guarantee covering genetic conditions. Details are outlined in our contract.
What should I bring to my first vet appointment?
Bring your go-home folder, vaccination record, and stool sample. We recommend scheduling this appointment before your puppy arrives home.
How are the puppies raised?
Our puppies are raised inside our home, never in a kennel building. They are handled daily, exposed to children, and introduced to normal household sounds and routines.
Do you start crate training?
We introduce crate exposure to make the transition easier for new families.
Do you start potty training?
Yes. Puppies are given structured opportunities and foundational potty training routines to ease the transition home.
Do the puppies interact with kids?
Yes. Our children are involved in raising and socializing the puppies, which helps develop confident, people-focused dogs.
How do you address nipping, mouthing, or play biting?
We begin early redirection techniques, teach bite inhibition, and introduce appropriate chew items.
